Committee members positions
As a club, we are keen to encourage members to join the committee in order to learn and understand what it takes, and requires, to manage the club. It goes without saying that all the roles operate within the mandates dictated by the club constitution, as well as club and BSAC rules; whichever applies accordingly. Also, all roles have to take into account the law, safeguarding as well as health and safety provisions.
Club members have the right to attend club meetings. If you are interested in a role, but feel it may be too much, you can always ‘shadow’ the person before you decide. For example, you could consider being the ‘assistant boat officer’ or ‘assistant equipment officer’ and so on.
A very brief summary of each role is outlined below. Please feel free to come and chat to the club Chairman or Committee member if you have any interest in a committee role.
The Chairman's primary role is to ensure that the Committee is effective in the tasks of setting and implementing the clubs direction and strategy. This role has oversight of any activities that promote the club.
The Secretary is responsible for the efficient administration of clubs affairs, particularly with regard to ensuring that decisions of the Committee are recorded and implemented.
The Treasurer position is responsible for the proper and legal management of the clubs financial activities.
The Membership Secretary is responsible for ensuring individuals fulfil the requirements of membership and training. This includes registration with the club as well as BSAC. The membership secretary liaises with other officers to ensure the personal development of members is encouraged and recorded accordingly.
